Hello my friends call me Red, nice to meet you.
I have been an amputee since June 12 2004. I am a biker by birth, the wind is part of my soul.
On June 12 2004 there was a drunk driver in RI who didnt stop for a red light. He came across 4 lanes of traffic and hit us. I was tossed 82ft without my leg in to the air. I hadnt even realized I had lost a limb just below the knee. I tried like hell to stand, to get to Mike. But as you know, without a leg it is hard to stand up. I was lucky, I lost my leg, My friend Michael Brouillard lost his life. that was the worst part of my accident. This was the first day of a journey I never thought I would take. But here I am, years later, still riding, still living, still doing almost everything I had done before. I just do it a bit different, and with a bit more pain. I am thankful that I did not die in that crash, I am here to prove to my only child that when something happens in your life to and creates obstacles. You figure out how to step over the obstacle and continue living with your head held up high and you remain doing all that makes you happy.
I was back to work 10 weeks after my crash, I was back to driving my Harley 10 months after the crash, I was back to being a single parent as soon as I could care for her on my own, about 1 month later. Being someone who loves control, I took it back very quickly. I wont tell you that it has been easy. Depression, anger, feeling like I want to give up due to pain, it was hard to fight. But I refuse to tell my child it is ok to give up. I want her to see no matter what she can do anything. She can be anything. She can be proud.
