I am a Marine, currently on Active Duty.
I lost my leg in October of 2004 in Ramadi, Iraq. Due to the skills of the Surgical and Medical teams, aas well as the occupational and physical therapy staffs at Bethesda National Naval Medical Center, and Walter Reed Army Medical Center, I was in good enough shape and using a prosthetic well enough to be released back into the "general population" within 9 months. It took over a year, but some other guys and I were the first amputees to stay on active duty on "permanent limited duty".
More to follow later.
