I attended the ACA conference in Atlanta for the first time and this was my first time flying in an airplane too.I must say that I learned some very interesting information. I have to say meeting other amputees that are like me was refreshing, I felt so normal there. Didnt have to worry about any folks staring at you in a weird way, just a bunch of amputees hanging out and exchanging stories. I also brought some of my t-shirts and they sold like hot cakes there it was awesome. I will be looking into getting a booth there next year if its GOD's will. I am so glad I went seems like I have made some awesome friends for life. AMPUTEES ARE REALLY COOL !!!!!

I have been an amputee for about a year and a half now. Throughout this year and a half, I've met so many other amputees from all across this big planet and I've come to realize that the support from these amputees have been a heaven sent gift. It's like being apart of a huge family where everyone cares about your well being. We can all understand the ups and downs that comes with being an amputee. At first I was in that state of mind where I was asking myself, why did this happen to me. With the help of these awesome amputees I met, I have notice that my attitude has changed alot. Even though my limb is gone and my life is totally different now, I am the same person I was before my amputation. We as amputees need to stick together, especially through the hard times we face everyday. So in otherwords, if you are an amputee or you know of an amputee that needs that extra push, show your support and watch how that person will appreciate it. This is Derrick Lewis, letting everyone know that " AMPUTEES MAKE THE WORLD GO AROUND ".

My in-laws lost there convience store to water flooding, pretty bad situation. The seawall view is not the same,we lost a major landmark, The Balinese, been there for years. I don't know about you other amputees, but ever since I was amputated I've been able to spot an amputee a mile away. It's kind of like when you buy a new car and you end up seeing that same car everywhere you go.I feel like I have some type of super power ( LOL ).I really didn't know it was that many amputees walking around on a everyday basis, which is not bad, just lets me know I'm not the only one.

hey I went to the river with my family for the first time and I must admit it was fun as hell.I was a slight bit scared at first but I got over it real quick. The river is much different then the beach,it was relaxing and calm,I was floating on a raft down the river me and my son,he was helping me paddle the raft.I did take my leg off I didn't want it to get to wet. There was so many folks on the river man I enjoyed it.I even got out of the raft and rode on a toob by myself.I am looking forward to going next year.
For the last couple of months my wife has been pushing me to get back in the gym.I admit I have put on some pounds lately and I'm getting my beer belly back and thats not good.In a way I'm kind of scared,I just don't know exactly how I should start.I have a prosthetic, but sometimes if I stand on it for so long it begins to hurt a little. My doctor said I could start off slow by using a treadmill, which I know I could but I just want to know what would be the best way to come up with a good work out plan.Should I focus on getting rid of my belly first or begin hitting the weights first. The issue with my leg hurting ,should I invest in some good running shoes to ease the pain from my leg.If you are a amputee or just a person thats into fitness and can give me any suggestions let me know.

Lately I have been hearing a lot of complaints from amputees about their insurance coverage. Most insurance companies from what I hear do not cover most prosthetic cost.Being a amputee myself I can understand the situation ,I didn't have any problem getting my prosthetic,I guess I was lucky. For those that are not lucky,it makes their situation even harder.I'm not saying that they should give prosthetics away for free, what about those that can't afford it and don't have any insurance at all.Beleive me having my leg has made a big difference in my life as for as keeping me active and keeping my spirits up.I understand insurance companies have to make money, but what about the little man. Most people say it's all politics and I'm begining to beleive that.Plain and simple it just doesn't make any sense to me at all.

For some reason lately,i have been having more phantom pain then usual.I wouldn't call it pain, more like a crazy feeling.I swear my foot is still there sometimes,it's weird.Just the other day i was watching t.v. and it felt like i twisted my ankle,it didn't hurt it just felt funny.I know i will be having this feeling for a while,it comes with being an amputee. It kind of makes you feel like you are crazy but you are not,the average person wouldn't understand i guess.
i want to know how did your life change after your amputation.for me it was kind of hard,my everyday routines changed alot but i have been doing pretty good for myself.my family has helped me out alot too, just by being there for me when i need them.
